This seminar presents high-impact, evidence-validated strategies that harness the power of context to minimise issues around “dodgy decoding”. The focus is on learners who can offer evidence of higher-order thinking after watching a video etc., but who struggle to do so during typical traditional comprehension tasks. A range of strategies will be presented which have the potential to become part of a learner’s metacognitive toolkit.
Learning outcomes:
Difficult conversations, challenging situations and complex cases can create an adversarial culture which flips between boxing gloves and a tug of war. With emotions high, resources stretched and sometimes incompatible expectations, this engaging and inspiring presentation will look at how to bridge the gap between families of children with SEND and practitioners. Using lived experience, research and best practice, it will explore small, inexpensive and meaningful ways to increase effective communication, engagement and collaboration with Parent/Carers.
Learning outcomes:
The benefits of employment for young people with additional needs are endless. Having a role, making new friends, being part of a work community, having money to spend, the list goes on. In this workshop, we will explore the successes and barriers to employment and share the learning through the DfE-funded Internships Work programme delivered by NDTi in partnership with BASE and DfN Project Search with the aim to double the number of supported internship placements by April 2025.
